The main obstacles will be regulatory and, especially, environmental: Supersonic airliners could be hugely more polluting than their subsonic counterparts. The most extensive such experiment took place over Oklahoma City in 1964. Assuming this campaign takes place on schedule, it'll be 60 years after the FAA's Oklahoma City tests.
