As efforts continue to make London the electric vehicle capital of Europe, Transport for London has added four Mitsubishi i-MiEVs to its fleet. The four vehicles are partly funded by the Government’s Low Carbon Procurement Partnership and is the first step in an effort to bring 1,000 electric vehicles to the city’s fleet by 2015.

Mitsubishi i-MiEV – from $12,000 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV. These tiny i-MiEVs were the first EVs on sale in Australia in 2010. Tesla Model S – from $45,000 2015 Tesla Model S 70. Their approximately 300km range have far more appeal, and look less dorky than the original Leaf.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has selected Toshiba Corporation’s SCiB battery ( earlier post ) to power two new models of electric vehicles (EV), the i-MiEV and MINICAB-MiEV. The SCiB also generates little heat while recharging, eliminating the need for power to cool the battery module. Click to enlarge.

Nissan’s QCs, therefore, can be used not just by drivers of Nissan LEAF but also by drivers of EVs from Mitsubishi, Citroën and Peugeot (the last two offering variants of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV). The lithium-ion batteries in Nissan LEAF can be recharged from 0 to 80% capacity in 30 minutes using such a quick charger.
