Duty will rise by 2p per litre on 1st September 2009 and by 1p per litre in real terms on 1st April each year from 2010 to 2013. This electric only range is adequate for many commuting journeys and even where the engine is required for part of a journey the overall emissions are considerably lower than for a conventionally powered car.
