European markets also have access to an extended range of Euro 5 and EEV engines with SCR technology. The new engines come with a new range of gearboxes—new Scania Opticruise and new Scania Retarder—all with improved performance. Alternative fuels. The engines can operate on up to 100% biodiesel.

GM also wants to improve the fuel efficiency of its vehicle fleet and will launch the Chevrolet Volt extended range vehicle in 2010. It hopes to have around 14 hybrid models in production by 2012 and will have 65 per cent of its vehicles as alternative-fuel capable by 2014.

The staff of the California Air Resources Board (ARB) has posted the proposed Advanced Clean Car (ACC) package of regulations in advance of the Board’s meeting on 26 January 2012 to consider adopting the new rules. Base credits for ZEVs on range, with 50-mile BEVs earning 1 credit each and 350-mile FCVs earning 4 credits each.

Partnering with Alcoa, Duke Energy, Google.org, Johnson Controls Indiana startup plans to unveil vehicle May 2009 at EVS-24 in Norway; mass production in 2012. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.
