In the United States, the introductory J Family models for the 1982 model year were the Chevrolet Cavalier , Pontiac J2000 , Oldsmobile Firenza , Buick Skyhawk and Cadillac Cimarron. Pontiac itself was gone after 2010. Chevrolet Cavaliers , of course, but also Vauxhall Cavaliers for Britain and Toyota Cavaliers for Japan.

Ford swept the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards today at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), winning with the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and the 2010 Ford Transit Connect, respectively. It is the third time in 17 years that one manufacturer has won both awards.

After months of speculation about its future, General Motors Corporation has reached agreements with the US Treasury and the governments of Canada and Ontario for the creation of a new smaller and self-sustaining GM. The New GM is expected to launch in 60-90 days as a separate and independent company from the existing General Motors.

The company has been created from the old GM’s strongest operations and is built on four core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. The four brands will offer 34 nameplates by 2010 compared to the old GM’s total of 48 in 2008. Canada and Ontario governments: 11.7%. UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust: 17.5%.

The 2010 Terrain will feature a choice of two new direct injection engines. The newly introduced GMC Terrain ( earlier post ) became the latest GM North American model that will feature a fuel-efficient gasoline direct injection (DI) engine in 2010.
