Toyota’s Prius was the top-seller in Japan in July, with 27,712 units sold—almost quadruple the 7,058 units sold in July 2008, according to data from the Japan Automotive Dealers Association. This marks the third month in a row that Prius was the top-selling car in Japan.

The scrappage scheme has put the car industry on track to meet the EU target of 130g/km of CO2 by 2012. per cent in the first nine months of 2009 from an average of 159.31g/km in September 2008 to 150.56g/km in September 2009. Other manufacturers to have made significant gains include Hyundai with an average of 134.4g/km
