NASA awards $16.5M to four teams for additional research into reducing aircraft fuel consumption, emissions and noise

The teams first studied the ideas from October 2008 to April 2010. The program’s Subsonic Fixed Wing Project oversees the work at the agency’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland and Langley Research Center in Virginia. Hybrid electric propulsion also has the potential to shorten takeoff distance and reduce noise.
