EPA announces $46M for latest Diesel Emissions Reduction Act funding

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of grant funding to implement projects which reduce emissions from the nation’s existing fleet of older diesel engines. Since the first year of the DERA program in 2008, EPA has competitively awarded more than 850 grants and 450 rebates across the country.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is announcing the availability of grant funding to implement projects aimed at reducing emissions from the nation’s existing fleet of older diesel engines. EPA anticipates awarding approximately $44 million in Diesel Emission Reduction Program (DERA) grant funding to eligible applicants.

Truck diesel PM emissions at Port of Oakland down 98% in past decade; ship emissions down 75%

Diesel PM emissions from trucks serving the Port of Oakland, California declined 98% between 2005 and 2015, according to an emissions inventory released by the Port. In that same timeframe, ship emissions dropped 75%. Overall DPM emissions decreased from 261 tons to 63 tons. tons in 2015. Locomotives - DPM down 89%.

California Regulation for Lower-Sulfur Marine Fuel Now in Effect

The DERA grant recipients are: The City of Los Angeles Harbor Department will replace a diesel-powered crane with an all-electric crane that produces zero emissions at the San Pedro Bay. Depending on the type of equipment, new diesel engines are 90% cleaner than the old engines they replace.
