Chinese automaker BYD may have been founded in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2008 that it garnered mainstream attention when Berkshire Hathaway, led by Warren Buffet, bought a 10 per cent stake in its parent company. Tata Motors: Most people know Tata Motors because it acquired Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008.

At least GM sent this nifty printed banner explaining all about the new J1772 industry standard recharging plug. At the 2008 Plug-In Conference in San Jose, Coulomb had the charging game all to themselves, but they were one of half a dozen charging players at this year’s show.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Volvo Ford-owned company exploring PHEVs "ReCharge" flex-fuel series 60-mile concept PHEV w/wheel motors. Batteries not ready. Has shown some concept fuel-cell PHEVs.
