GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009.

Wang entered the automobile business in 2003 by buying a Chinese state-owned car company that was all but defunct. BYD makes about 80% of Motorolas RAZR handsets, as well as batteries for iPods and iPhones and low-cost computers, including the model distributed by Nicholas Negropontes One Laptop per Child nonprofit based in Cambridge, Mass.
