The breakthrough could revolutionize electric car battery technology and pave the way for ultra-fast charging electric vehicles in as little as two years. The discovery came when MIT researchers Byoungwoo Kang and Gerbrand Ceder found out how to get a common lithium compound to release and take up lithium ions in a matter of seconds.

Kulongoski, Oregon as the electric-car manufacturer may be eyeing the “green” city of Portland. The Renault-Nissan Alliance is building fleet charging stations in Portland and Phoenix.

Not to be outdone, on Tuesday the Norwegian electric car startup, Think, was in Portland being wooed by the state as one of 8 potential places to site their first car manufacturing facility in the United States. According to Nissan, the company plans to introduce its upcoming electric car in Oregon in late 2010.
