This prototype uses a lead-acid mixture. The first batteries could power vehicles to “neck-breaking” speeds of up to 14 mph. Until then, batteries were made with nickel and cadmium, or lead acid. Now, Nissan and Tesla offer an eight-year and 100,000-mile warranty. Yet, it was a revolution, nonetheless.

In addition to a recent electric car deal with NISSAN Motors ( NSANY ), Portland General Electric, the Oregon state governor and GE have also announced a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors ( MMTOF.PK ) to develop and sell the Miev electric car with 85 mile range by 2011.
