The FCA Melfi, Italy plant is beginning preparations to produce the Jeep Renegade Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) scheduled for market launch in early 2020. The Renegade PHEV will be produced alongside the Renegade and 500X full combustion engine products that are currently produced at the Melfi vehicle assembly plant.

Nine BEVs and PHEVs had positive growth in Q3, while 19 models saw declines in Q3, although two of those models (Honda Clarity and Mazda MX-30) have been discontinued, sales of the Toyota bZ4X were halted while they fixed a mechanical issue; and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is in transition to the new 2023 model. Jeep Wrangler 4xe leads PHEVs. While pure EV sales were up compared to last year, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), hybrids (HEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) were down. The best-selling plug-in hybrid was the Jeep Wrangler 4xe while hybrids were dominated by Toyota/Lexus models that took 55% of that market segment.

To further reduce fuel consumption, Chrysler incorporated stop/start technology into the new Ram 1500 as well as the diesel version of the Jeep Wrangler that Fiat is selling on our behalf in Europe. This transmission is now in the new Ram 1500, the Jeep Grand Cherokee (including in the diesel version), and the Dodge Durango.
