Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), in cooperation with Duke Energy and non-profit industry initiative Energy Systems Network (ESN), will participate in a joint smart-grid pilot project in Indiana, the United States. The project is scheduled to begin in early 2013 and to run for approximately one year.

According to some auto industry estimates, electric vehicle (EV) batteries that can no longer charge to approximately 80% of their original capacity may be candidates for replacement. Initial testing will occur in Duke Energy’s Indiana service territory.
