Battery-gasoline hybrids go back more than 20 years to the first Toyota Prius, but real mainstream battery-only electric EVs are only in their second decade. The Toyota Prius, a battery-gasoline hybrid, is a very famous and recognizable example of this approach. Lexus did the trick. It debuted in the U.S. as a 1999 model.

Yesterday we told you how hybrid sales continued their downward trend in the US. Overall, reported sales of hybrids dropped 45.5 per cent year-on-year to 21,735 even though it incorporated a full month’s sales for new vehicles such as the Honda Insight, as well as the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan Hybrids.

The Saturn version of the two-mode plug-in hybrid at the Milford Proving Grounds. One of the designers called Buick “ premium without being pretentious ” Buick appears to be targeting a Lexus like experience. I was able to spend 10 minutes driving a Saturn Aura sedan with an (HCCI) engine system. by Bill Cooke.

Though 12 miles is well short of the 40 plus miles of the upcoming Chevy Volt, the costs associated with the hybrid system should also fall well short of the Volts costly power train. . The plug-in Prius is a separate model from the all new 2010 Prius Hybrid.
