The US battery storage sector saw 4,235 megawatts (MW) installed in Q4 2023, according to Wood Mackenzie and the American Clean Power Association’s (ACP) latest “ US Energy Storage Monitor” report. For the first time, the grid-scale segment exceeded 3 gigawatts (GW) deployed in one quarter and nearly topped 4 GW. MW set in Q3 2023.

It’s the first time in 80 years that a renewable electricity source has accounted for over half of annual capacity additions to the grid. Every solar market segment saw year-over-year growth in 2023, bringing total installed solar capacity in the US to 177 GW. The residential solar segment installed a record 210,000 systems in Q3.
