The 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show opens to the public today with a glittering display of green cars taking pride of place. The show, based at the Los Angeles Convention Center will host more than 30 significant world and North American debuts and feature more than 900 vehicles from sports cars and sedans to crossovers and minivans.

Nevertheless, the show retains its importance for home-grown manufacturers and with Japanese Government incentives centring on low-emission cars it’s no surprise to see this year’s event adopt a green theme. Honda: The company sold a total of 4,943 hybrids during the month with 4,226 of these units being the new Honda Insight. Toyota : Still the hybrid sales leader, Toyota sold 24,191 units in the month including 543 of the new Lexus HS250. The world’s most popular hybrid car, the Prius, saw sales of 18,886 units – up 40.3

Honda: Thanks to the introduction of the new Honda Insight Hybrid, which sold 1,739 units during the month, Honda reported a 21.9 Toyota’s luxury division Lexus enjoyed a boost during the month with the RX Hybrid posting 1,567 units, an increase of 154.8 per cent drop compared to the previous year.

Honda: Total hybrid sales hit 3,662 units for American Honda, up 34.5 This was led by the success of the new Honda Insight with 2,079 units sold. In terms of its luxury division Lexus, the RX hybrid sold 527 units, down 60.4 per cent year on year. per cent compared to the previous year.
