The original CivicWithACord design used 18 8-volt golf cart batteries. After some debate on the Google Group and dealing with clutch-link interference issues, I'm tending towards 12-volt group-31 AGM batteries for the initial design. So thats disappointing. As stinky is another way of saying not healthy to breathe.

The MiEV runs on a lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged in seven or so hours on a 240-volt line. The electric car features three different battery options, two different Lithium-based (LI) systems – A123Systems and Enerdel as well as a Sodium-Nickel battery Zebra (Mes-Dea). market b y the end of 2009.

There are companies that are reinventing the lead-acid battery to make it more competitive with lithium-ion and nickel metal hydride in terms of storage capacity versus weight, durability, and cold weather performance. Li though have many different types, weigh less and more power.
