Interest in electric cars is surging: •Nearly 52,000 people were wait-listed as of mid-April for General Motors’ electric model, the Volt, due in November. In March, BYD chief executive officer Wang Chuanfu announced that in the first half of 2010 the company will sell only 100 e6 cars, to a taxi company in Shenzhen.

With General Motors and Chrysler also showing signs of modest improvement, all looked rosy. According to Knittel the results suggest that the programme is an expensive way to reduce carbon, although he does state that it is possible the stimulus benefits outweigh added environmental costs. So is this scheme green at all?
