The 1987 Sprint ER came in second place, due to its insatiable thirst for go-go juice on the highway (51 miles per gallon). The original Honda Insight beat it, but it needed a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain plus a lot of cutting-edge aerodynamic and weight-reduction tricks to pull it off.

Annual use of an EV should be less than the average cost of $8,000 per year for using a gasoline in many countries including the USA. So while my car is powering the great city during the day how will I have juice to drive home at the end of the day? Project Better Place plans to deploy a massive network of battery charging spots.
