The extracted rock can be used directly as a power plant resource or it can be processed to produce shale oil, which in turn can be refined into gasoline, diesel or jet fuels. In 2012, 70% of Estonia’s total primary energy supply (TPES) came from oil shale. Different that shale oil—i.e., of global and 17% of European reserves.
