The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy today released the 2010 Fuel Economy Guide, which gives consumers information about estimated fuel costs and mileage standards for model year 2010 vehicles. For MY 2010, the Prius is the top fuel economy leader , with EPA ratings of 51/48 mpg city/highway.

The 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid uses Ford’s second-generation hybrid system, based on the 2.5-liter Ford notes that the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid’s projected fuel economy tops its nearest competitor—the 2010 Lexus HS 250h—by 6 mpg, while providing room for one more passenger and more standard luxury and segment-exclusive safety features.

Ford has officially announced the second member of its turbocharged, gasoline direct-injection EcoBoost family, a 2.0-liter, The first engine in the EcoBoost line, a 3.5L, V6 engine ( earlier post ), is being applied in the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and Flex and Lincoln MKS and MKT. 2010 Ford Fusion and Fusion Hybrid.

Ford Motor Company is investing $155 million at its Cleveland operations to build a new more fuel-efficient V-6 engine for the 2011 Mustang. The investment and jobs at Ford’s Cleveland Engine Plant No. Opened in 1951 as Ford’s first engine plant in Ohio, the facility has produced more than 35 million engines.

A team at Ford Motor Company’s Research and Innovation Center in Dearborn conducted a detailed study of the effect of ethanol blend level in emissions, using a 2006 model Mercury Grand Marquis flexible fuel vehicle (FFV) operating on E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E55, and E80 on a chassis dynamometer. Several after-market companies have done PHEV conversions of the Ford Escape hybrid and one has done a retrofit of the F-150 pickup -- see Where PHEVs Are and ICE-Conversions.) Company says its focusing on gasoline and hydrogen. Batteries not ready.
