South Africa-based Optimal Energy has taken delivery of four of its Joule EVs ( earlier post ) for use as a marketing fleet. The marketing fleet was hand-built in Port Elizabeth by Hi-Tech Automotive, a specialist automotive production firm, and to date have undergone extensive testing within the premises.

South Africa vehicle maker Optimal Energy will exhibit a functional prototype of its Joule full battery-electric multi-purpose urban passenger vehicle ( earlier post ) at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Joule will be completely highway capable with a top speed limited to 135 km/h (84 mph).

Optimal Energy , the Cape Town, South Africa-based company that unveiled the Joule full battery-electric multi-purpose urban passenger vehicle to the world at the Paris Motor Show in 2008 ( earlier post ), plans to have pilot fleets on the road in South Africa and globally from 2010 onwards, with mass production to start in South Africa from 2012.

The CityCat model will clock out at 68 mph with a driving range of 125 miles. Nègre has signed deals to bring its design to 12 more countries, including Germany, Israel and South Africa. It is anticipated that approximately 6000 Air Cars will be cruising the streets of India by 2008. The cost of a fill up is approximately $2.00.
