The mild hybrid electric motor boosts the gasoline engine when accelerating and helps with fuel efficiency, using a 48V lithium-ion battery that is replenished through regenerative braking.

Volvo has flipped its usual script with the 2023 XC60 Recharge plug-in hybrid, but it hasn’t sacrificed any of the benefits of owning a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), which is the perfect bridge between a gasoline and electric power.
