Alfa Romeo Tonale – the Italian brand finally has a rechargeable car in its ranks in the form of the Tonale PHEV compact SUV. Kia Soul EV – as a petrol wagon the Soul received a luke warm reception in Australia, but with an all-electric drivetrain it promises so much more. Expect to see it Down Under in 2023.

It ispleasingly quick but will still only manage 150 miles between charges, muchless than a tank of petrol, even if it costs only £1.50 Witha 60-mile range, most felt the need to recharge after 30 miles or so. to charge overnight. The electric Mini is unlikely to go into production in its present form.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
