MIT spinoff A123 was a personal favorite, also Germany’s Continental was in the running, but it was LG Chem subsidiary and Detroit based Compact Power, Inc. From what I’m reading, there’s a lot of battery production coming on line in the next 12 months in Asia and Europe. that got the nod. and complete the circle.

It will appear in Europe next year as the Opel Ampera and in Australia as the Holden Volt in 2012. One wonders if the recent headway at MIT in building lithium ion cells using ?virus? A simple, clean, efficient EV that wont run out of juice because of its on-board gas generator. The car is expected to cost around $40,000.
