The 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show opens to the public today with a glittering display of green cars taking pride of place. The show, based at the Los Angeles Convention Center will host more than 30 significant world and North American debuts and feature more than 900 vehicles from sports cars and sedans to crossovers and minivans.

Together the two cars sold 2,299 units. Meanwhile, the Ford Escape and Mariner hybrids saw sales drop by 40.5 per cent to 2,198 units, while sales of the Highlander Hybrid dropped by 63.8 per cent year-on-year - there were a combined 1,165 units sold. Sales of the Camry Hybrid fell by 67.1 per cent to 933 units.

However, it sold 2,138 hybrids in September which is 116 per cent up compared to September 2008 – sales of the Milan/Escape hybrid were down 11.3 per cent, but the new Fusion and Milan hybrid accounted for 1,260 units.
