At the Zwickau vehicle plant, Volkswagen commissioned the first fast-charging park in Saxony supplied with energy largely from a power storage container (PSC). The PSC is an electricity storage unit and consists of 96 cell modules with a net capacity of 570 kWh. 4 and have now been given a second purpose.

Following in-vehicle usage, the BMW i3 battery retains most of its original capacity, thus continuing to offer years of emissions free power storage and expanding the sustainability concept beyond the individual vehicle life. In 2014, BMW integrated high-voltage batteries into a stationary storage system in Hamburg.

The hybrid system’s discÂshaped motor with integral power electronics is a permanently excited synchronous motor; it is fitted between the combustion engine and the automatic transmission. The electric power generated by recuperation is stored in a bank of supercapacitors.
