Nissan and power management leader Eaton are broadening their portfolio of xStorage Home residential energy storage solutions—which can use second-life EV batteries—by introducing a range of six product configurations, giving consumers greater choice to meet their energy needs.

The new building will feature 100 vehicle-to-grid chargers, from Nissan’s partner ENEL, allowing Nissan’s range of EVs to plug in and draw down energy from the grid at off-peak periods with the ability to “sell back” the stored energy to the grid. Grid integration trials have already begun in Denmark.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. will test two hybrid systems—one developed by ArvinMeritor and one developed by Eaton and Peterbilt—in Class 8 trucks. Wal-Mart uses Class 8 trucks to haul its trailers and deliver product to its stores. Energy that is generated during braking is captured and stored using regenerative braking.

Ford Motor Company is expanding its MyEnergi Lifestyle program ( earlier post ), announced at last year’s CES, to include home energy storage. will demonstrate the benefits of integrating additional tools, such as the ability to store energy within the home after it is captured by solar panels.

Tesla (Powerwall): While Tesla’s main focus has been on energy storage for homes and businesses, Powerwall units could potentially contribute to V2G scenarios, although Tesla has not widely marketed this capability.
