Bosch leading Direct4Gas consortium to develop direct injection for monovalent natural gas engines

Green Car Congress

Researchers in an unrelated study of direct injection natural gasoline engines (dual-fuel combustion in CI-engines using RCCI as well as conventional duel-fuel combustion) at Chalmers University (Sweden) noted that methane’s very high octane number allows the use of high compression ratios in spark ignition engines.

ETH Zürich Developing Pneumatic Hybrid Engine; Approaches Hybrid-Electric Performance at Lower Cost

Green Car Congress

The pneumatic hybrid engine, which follows the downsizing and supercharging paradigm, offers a fuel-saving potential that is almost equal to that of hybrid electric powertrains while inducing much lower additional mass and cost penalties, according to the ETH Zürich researchers. The compressed air supply also allows extreme downsizing.

Volkswagen Group introducing Modular Transverse Matrix this year; new engine families, lighter weight construction, powertrain flexibility

Green Car Congress

In the familiar gasoline engines of the previous EA111 series, the (‘hot’) exhaust side was at the front, and the engines were mounted with a forward tilt. The advantage is that the exhaust line, driveshafts and gearbox mounting position can be standardized. TSI, an exhaust camshaft adjuster is added.
