The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements. The extended-range version will be focused on retail customers.

For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. If every car accepts 2 or 4 or 6 of these universal packs then true economies of scale can kick in in their manufacture. my idea is that it would work the way propane tanks work now.
