Maybe Ford went with Maverick because it can mean “pursuing rebellious, even potentially disruptive, policies or ideas.” Ford has certainly done this by resurrecting the compact pickup genre that was once so popular in the 1960s-1980s.

Hyundai’s first-ever pickup comes at a time where the Ford Maverick compact pickup is making waves of its own. The Ford Maverick is more truck-like, while the Hyundai Santa Cruz is more car-like.
