EPA anticipates awarding approximately $44 million in Diesel Emission Reduction Program (DERA) grant funding to eligible applicants.

Since the first year of the DERA program in 2008, EPA has awarded nearly 700 grants across the US.

Hydraulic pumps/motors and an accumulator (power storage unit) are added to gasoline, diesel, propane or CNG engines to store braking energy and use the captured energy to accelerate the vehicle, significantly saving fuel and brakes and cutting emissions. On this cycle, CO 2 emissions are reduced by 16% and NO x emissions are reduced by 67%.
