Chief Customer Officer for Ford, Marin Gjaja, commented on this: “Shortly after launching the F-150 Lightning, rapidly rising material costs, supply constraints, and other factors drove up the cost of the EV truck for Ford and our customers. At one point, Ford expected the Pro to be just below $40,000.

The First Edition is sold out, but the GT and GT Performance hit dealers in the fall 2021. For comparison, the base Mach-E with rear-wheel drive and equipped with the extended range battery is rated with a 305-mile all-electric driving range. Not so mellow yellow. Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0" So far, most start as hybrids.

Fuel cell cars should be plug-in hybrids so that the fuel cell is used only for extended range, and the fuel cell stack and hydrogen storage can be smaller. Toyota has had a battery recycling program since 1998 and even offers dealers a $200 bounty to ensure batteries arent just thrown away (described at end of linked document).
