The research, led by Associate Professor Brian Stone, shows that expected levels of CO 2 emissions from cars and trucks in 2050 could be reduced back to close to 2000 levels if the full vehicle fleet was converted to hybrid electric vehicles—a greater reduction in CO 2 emissions than achieved by two smart growth scenario modelled in the study.

The project will convert local landfill gas (LFG), a renewable fuel source, to compressed natural gas and develop five CNG fueling stations throughout the metro-Atlanta area. New vehicles to be deployed include 55 CNG vehicles, 363 propane vehicles, 89 hybrid electric vehicles, and 56 neighborhood electric vehicles.

They’re converting to new technology. Bob Kacergis: Our biggest one is IndyGo in Indianapolis. It’s in the pavement at a bus stop in the middle of a residential neighborhood. With our current system it’s very easy for us to swap pads in and out and upgrade. We’ve had a couple of our first-generation users that are upgrading.

Thats such a pretty metallic blue; I would love to see these postal vehicles around my neighborhood. Reply ↓ ↑ report 4 Kumar 1:03PM (4/22/2009) Indianapolis has boatloads of Chrysler minivans for its routes, so I imagine wed be a target city. Oh, and the whole electric thing is good too.
