We used this information to estimate annual greenhouse-gas emissions from the fuel cycle, which depend partly on the average vehicle size and partly on how much vehicle efficiency improves over time. Promoting mixed-use neighborhoods—areas that put work and residence in proximity—would allow more bicycling and walking.
