Saab to Separate from GM and Create Independent Business in Sweden

In its updated business plan submitted to the US Congress on 17 February, GM said it had offered Saab for sale, and had requested Swedish government support prior to any sale. GM also said that is will sell or phase out the Hummer brand by 31 March, with a final resolution no later than 2010, and spin-off, sell or phase out the Saturn brand.

GM and Chrysler Submit Updated Restructuring Plans; Up to $18.6B More Needed; Outlines for Product Plans

As required by the loan agreements signed in December 2008, GM and Chrysler submitted their updated restructuring plans showing a pathway to achieve financial viability to Congress on Tuesday. Elements of the new plan include: GM will sell or phase out the Hummer brand by 31 March, with a final resolution no later than 2010.

GM Releases New Viability Plan, Launches Bond Exchange; Phasing Out Pontiac

As part of the new plan, GM will accelerate the wind-down or sale of HUMMER, Saturn and Saab to the end of 2009, and phase out Pontiac by the end of 2010. The revised plan moves up the resolution of Saab, Saturn, and Hummer to the end of 2009, at the latest.

GM Advises Approximately 1,100 Dealers of No Long-Term Future in GM Dealer Network

In a statement issued today, GM also said that it will be updating about 470 Saturn, HUMMER and Saab dealers on the status of those brands and will be discussing how the remaining dealers will support our retail plans going forward. The actual number of dealers could vary given levels of attrition, etc. outside of GM’s control.

Non-core brand sales declined when compared with June as Pontiac dipped 7%; Saturn was down 21%, and HUMMER and Saab declined 26%. GMC sales increased 8%, led by Sierra, Canyon and Yukon XL. Cadillac Escalade ESV sales increased 32% while Escalade sales increased 3%.

They only have that many models because they use the same chassis and drivetrain to build 3 different cars, one branded as a Chevy, the next a Pontiac, then a Saturn, etc. So my Saturn SC1 does the job great I am getting 35-38 miles on the Hwy and with over 232,000 miles and runs like a champ. The first VCRs were well over a $1000.00
