The team achieved rates of up to 400C and 1,000C for lithium-ion and nickel-metal hydride chemistries, respectively (where a 1C rate represents a one-hour complete charge or discharge), enabling fabrication of a lithium-ion battery that can be 90% charged in 2 minutes. You would just pull up to a charging station and fill up.

The working concept of I3 – /I – redox reaction in the aqueous Li-I 2 battery. The reversible redox reaction without the formation of resistive solid products promotes rechargeability, demonstrating 100 cycles with negligible capacity fading. The Li-I 2 batteries showed high energy density and excellent recharge ability.
