Levels of two major air pollutants have been reduced significantly since lockdowns began in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but a secondary pollutant—ground-level ozone—has increased in China, according to new research. For comparison, columns over the same time periods are shown for 2019.

In comparison, to meet upcoming Euro 6 standards beginning in September this year, at least 20 sensors are needed—depending on the engine. As a pollutant, NO x has long been a stronger focus for US legislation, which also dictates that the emission parameters are measured under realistic driving cycle conditions.
