The first two vehicles available for AMP conversions are the GM Saturn Sky and the GM Pontiac Solstice. By comparison, a full hybrid application yielded only a 5 °C difference between the two motor technologies over the same drive cycle. The end product is an all-electric vehicle with a range of up to 150 miles per charge.

At the recent SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, General Motors engineers presented the first front-wheel-drive (FWD) iteration of their two-mode hybrid transaxle, termed the 2MT70 ( earlier post ), scheduled for its first application in the Saturn 2009 VUE 2-Mode Hybrid light sport-utility vehicle later this year ( earlier post ).

van Wijk, a former Methanex executive, formed Saturn Methanol which subsequently built Titan Methanol, a 2,500 tonne per day methanol production facility in Trinidad, and began Atlas Methanol, also in Trinidad. van Wijk sold Saturn to Methanex in 2000 due to funding issues. They only have that many models because they use the same chassis and drivetrain to build 3 different cars, one branded as a Chevy, the next a Pontiac, then a Saturn, etc. That way you have a fair basis of comparison, you know, apples to apples and all that jazz. The first VCRs were well over a $1000.00
