While people can purchase neighborhood electric vehicles today for about $10K, they only have a top speed of 35 miles an hour or so, essentially glorified golf-carts. All the commercially available freeway-capable (70 mph) EVs are priced way out of reach for the average consumer.

Massive government subsidies are upending commercial considerations. The Think Global would definitly be classified as a mini-car, several size classes smaller than a compact car like the Honda Civic or Ford Focus. They are either glorified golf cart city cars like this one or they are only for the very wealthy like the Tesla.

GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. Honda has probably sold more Civics in a year than the combined total of all 18 of those GM models. Ive found it facinating how car commercials changed the main MPG number they promoted before gas went over $4 a gallon as city miles.
