The governors of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, and the mayor of the District of Columbia announced that theirs will be the first jurisdictions to launch a new multi-state program that the principals expect will invest some $300 million per year in cleaner transportation choices.

The governors of 8 states—California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont—have signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) to take specific actions to put 3.3 US electric car sales in 2012 more than tripled to about 52,000 from 17,000 in 2011.

Fifty years later, the USA is faced with a similar challenge, energy independency and climatic change. In Germany, renewable electricity generation will be 35 percent by 2020, and 50 percent by 2050.
