Chinese automaker BYD plans to debut its new energy pickup truck, Shark, in Mexico this month. The Chinese automaker was initially rumored to unveil it at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2024. The Chinese automaker has been reportedly looking at sites in the area for an electric vehicle manufacturing plant.

The Chinese automaker revealed a few details about its first pickup truck to pique people’s interest before the unveiling. The Asian automaker released teasers for the pickup truck, revealing its name and confirming that it will use DMO (Dual-Mode Super Hybrid All-Terrain Off-Road Platform) technology.

Its DMO super hybrid off-road platform, used for the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5, is designed for off-road PHEVs. The Shark will look to take market share from Toyota’s Hilux and Isuzu’s D-MAX in key markets like Thailand, Australia, and South Africa. Especially as it promotes itself as an official partner of UEFA EURO 2023.
