During his address to Parliament earlier this week, Malaysian finance minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz cited the reduction of pollutants and better air quality as the main indicators of why electric cars are a good idea. The current market for electric vehicles in Malaysia is small.

As a pollutant, NO x has long been a stronger focus for US legislation, which also dictates that the emission parameters are measured under realistic driving cycle conditions. The high residual oxygen content in the exhaust of these engines makes it impossible for conventional three-way catalysts to reduce NO x pollutants.
