Werner Enterprises, a premier transportation and logistics provider, is testing a 2019 Peterbilt 579 EV Class 8 electric truck for a year on a dedicated account in Southern California. Werner’s first electric-powered truck is the result of a partnership with Peterbilt, Meritor and TransPower.

will supply all-electric drivetrain systems for two Peterbilt vehicle platforms through its alliance with TransPower. These include 12 Peterbilt all-electric Class 8 Model 579 day cab tractors and three Model 520 refuse trucks. Funding for the Peterbilt 520 deployment was provided by the California Energy Commission.

The result is a full OEM-performance electric vehicle that utilizes RNG for range extension and reduces emissions by up to 99% in certain duty cycles. Currently, Sectran Security trucks make frequent stops as part of their highly congested routes. The truck offers 20+ miles of all electric range, and a top speed of 65 mph.
