At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0" We believe both NiMH and Li-Ion are ready. PHEVs with "Good Enough to Get Started" batteries. 25 or more gets you a bumper sticker.

Despite this, a 2003 EPRI study , assuming only $2/gallon gas , zero buying incentives, and a PHEV premium of $3-$5,000 more than standard hybrids, shows that the total lifetime cost of ownership for a PHEV will be lower than that of any other vehicle type -- so the payback will be there. Better yet, make a tax-deductible contribution.

2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries. People wont buy a full car. They will buy a car and rent or lease the battery and the cost of leasing the battery will be the same as, or less than, the cost theyre paying today for petrol. The Omori factory currently produces NiMH cells.
