When hybrids appeared most used nickel-metal-hydride batteries This question was such a big roadblock for increasing sales that Toyota began an advertising campaign for the Prius that clearly emphasized that plugging in was not necessary. Just occasionally fill up the gas tank and drive away. Here’s a brief overview.

The high voltage systems pose little to no risk of electric shock, either while driving or recharging. The nickel-metal hydride used in EV batteries is in maintenance-free sealed cells, so nothing gets in or out. Don’t worry about dodging puddles in your Prius! should i buy an ev instead of an ice?

And we all won’t be driving a Prius either – I’ll have my electric pickup truck in a few years too. Lithium, nickel metal hydrides and even advanced lead acid products are now capable of great energy storage and have strong recycle lives. Battery technologies are advancing rapidly.

Duh, heres our $40K volt, buy it please? Today we could be using lead-acid EVs, lead-carbon-acid EVs, or nickel metal hydride or lithium-ion hybrids. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. Toyota still has not made any money on the Prius.

Cheap to run but expensive to buy, they offer theprospect of low or zero carbon emissions, but manufacturers won’t sell themunless motorists want to buy them – and motorists won’t buy unless the priceis right and there are enough places to charge the batteries. Car buyers were less enthusiastic.

In a flurry of electric vehicle activity, three back-to-back announcements this week have placed a spotlight on Oregon’s plans to be the friendliest state in the nation in which to build, sell and buy electric cars. Many of the first Prius hybrids that were released are still running strong on their NiMH batteries after 100,000+ miles.
