The nickel-metal hydride used in EV batteries is in maintenance-free sealed cells, so nothing gets in or out. Don’t worry about dodging puddles in your Prius! should i buy an ev instead of an ice? Charging in the rain is safe and carries no added threat of short-circuiting, sparks, or other dangers.

The plug-in Prius is a separate model from the all new 2010 Prius Hybrid. The fleet models will be part of a test bed for Toyota and future development of the plug-in Prius may at some point lead to a consumer model. The plug-in Prius is expected to launch sometime in 2010.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0"
