The Volvo C40 Recharge pure electric will start at an MSRP of $58,750 in the United States before tax credits. Vehicle production will begin in Ghent, Belgium this fall with the first US customer deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2021.

Finally, in the fall, we announced the rebrand of Blue Corner into Blink Charging Belgium. Like the tax credit for new EVs, the used EV tax credit included an AGI cap and must be sold by a licensed dealer. Moreover, they must fulfill wage and apprenticeship requirements to qualify for a maximum 30% tax credit.

One of the proposed changes to the federal EV tax credit that has flown a bit under the radar is also one of the most political and protectionist in nature. Effective January 1, 2022, electric vehicles with final assembly* (see definition at the end) in China would no longer qualify for IRC 30D (federal EV tax credit).

The $12,500 electric vehicle tax credit proposed in President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan is being labeled as “discriminatory” by Mexican Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier, who said the country is analyzing legal recourse and other actions, including potential tariffs against the United States.

The electric XC40 comes from Ghent, Belgium, incidentally. Under current rules, that means up to 200,000 Polestar vehicles will be eligible for the full $7,500 federal income-tax credit. Volvo still has plenty of its own credits left, but after several years of selling plug-in hybrids, it has fewer than its sister brand.
