Daimler has concluded customer field trials with eight pre-production Fuso Canter E-Cell electric trucks ( earlier post ) in Portugal. FUSO developed the battery-powered and locally emission-free Canter E-Cell at the Daimler Trucks Center of Competence for Hybrid Technology.

The market introduction of the Opel Ampera (the European cousin of the Chevy Volt) is due by the end of 2011. The Opel Ampera will then be rolled out throughout France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom from the beginning of 2012.

Buyerswill purchase the car – at about the same price as a conventional model –but lease the batteries from a third-party energy supplier for a monthly feeequivalent to the fuel costs for an economical petrol or diesel car. They are placing all their bets on pureelectric vehicles that produce zero emissions at the point of use.
